HIGHER EDUCATION
After 4 years as an undergraduate at the University of Michigan and 8 years as a graduate student at Indiana University (where I earned a Ph.D. in English and American literature), I like to tell people that I made it through the 24th grade. Along the way, including 8 years teaching writing and literature at IU, I gained first-hand knowledge of university life and work.
I've written widely about college pedegogy for IU's "Teaching & Learning" magazine. I've also written marketing and informational copy for the IU Kelley School of Business.
CULTURE & LITERATURE
While writing a dissertation as part of earning a Ph.D. in English and American literature at IU, one thing became clear: I prefered writing about a broader range of topics for a larger audience. Having published several book reviews and articles in academic journals, I can confidently say that I much more enjoy publishing in more popular venues.
I've written on culture and lifestyle topics for a wide range of magazine, including "The Jerusalem Report," " Jerusalem Post Magazine," "Reform Judaism," "Bloom," "IU Research & Creative Activity," and "IU Teaching & Learning." One of my most widely read pieces was a feature in the "Jersualem Post Magazine" about a modern day red cow believed by some to be the harbringer of the age of the 3rd temple in Jerusalem. "The New Yorker" eventually picked up the story and based its feature largely on my reporting.
