IU KELLEY SCHOOL OF BUSINESS MBA PROGRAM 60TH ANNIVERSARY BOOKLET Section 7

STUDENTS AND FACULTY ENGAGEMENTS
Kelley MBA students and professors learn from and challenge each other in the classroom. But they come together outside of class to have fun and to make IU a better place to live and learn.

Giving for a Good Cause
Kelley professors and students give their all in the classroom . . . and outside of it, too. Hosted by the Kelley Association of Women MBAs (KAWMBA), the annual Faculty Auction raised a record $22,000 in 2007. The event brings together MBA faculty, staff and students and features a live auction of special events—including a Super Bowl party for 100—donated by Kelley faculty and staff.

“The generosity of local businesses, Kelly faculty and MBA students was just amazing,” said KAWMBA auction chair Jamie Podhaizer. “Almost every aspect of the evening was fully donated.”
Proceeds from the auction went to the Walther Cancer Institute and Blacconaire Scholarship Fund.

Running for Walt
MBA students and faculty teamed up to run in the 2007 Hoosiers Outrun Cancer 5k Run/Walk. The 125-member team—named “Kelley Runs for Walt” in honor of former Kelley professor Walt Blacconiere, who passed away earlier in the year—was the largest IU team in the event for the second year running.

“The Kelley community came together to support one of its own,” said team captain and MBA student Jason Clancy. “More than half of those who supported the cause were first-year students who did not even know Walt, which speaks to the legacy he left and the uniqueness of the Kelley family.”

Since 2000, Hoosiers Outrun Cancer has raised nearly $1 million for the Bloomington Hospital Olcott Center for Cancer Education.

A night of Fun and Folly
As a Kelley MBA candidate, every day you’re challenged by brilliant professors and high achieving classmates. It’s serious business.

But it’s also a lot of fun, especially on the night of the MBA Follies. IN 2007, more than 300 students and faculty packed into the Bluebird night club for skits roasting Wayne Winston, Shally Jain, Mike Metzger and other professors. One skit that got a lot of laughs showed students having a nervous breakdown courtesy of the infamous “Metzger Staredown.”

“The Follies skits give us an opportunity to poke fun at ourselves and our professors as we depart to challenging internships and careers,” said Brad Kauffman, MBA ’08, who organized and emcee’d the event. “The creative caliber of this school is amazing.”
